College Aid

Apply for a Scholarship! Do you know a rising senior who lives in Ferndale, Highland Terrace, Joppa Way, Liberty Park, or Russelldale? Through the I-526 LCC WEST Community Commitments program, SCDOT offers a scholarship fund to support the educational expenses of residents attending technical or trade schools as well as 4-year colleges. Those intending to enroll or those already attending are eligible. We were pleased to award three scholarships of $7,500 each in our first year (2023).

Know a younger student? Don’t worry. We will continue funding this scholarship throughout the construction of the project, or until all $500,000 have been awarded. Check out the application to learn more or apply here! Scholarship applications are typically due in early May for that year’s award.

Live in a participating neighborhood

Attend or be accepted by an accredited higher-education institutions

Have a 2.0 GPA or higher

Include 2 letters of recommendation and a thoughtful essay

Summer Transportation STEM Camps

The transportation industry provides so many wonderful career opportunities. We’re excited to offer the Summer Transportation STEM Camps each summer to help our local teens build valuable skills and learn more about those varied, worthwhile career opportunities.

We’ve been proudly offering this program to high school students since 2022 who live in Camps, Charleston Farms, Ferndale, Highland Terrace, Joppa Way, Liberty Park, Russelldale, and Wando Woods. While our 2024 application period has closed, please make sure to pay attention to the criteria below to plan for 2025!
